Jumble sale thrifting and a major decision.

Yesterday was my church Jumble sale. I have been involved in the event for a couple of years now and although it can be exhausting it is also very enjoyable.
I arrived at the church for 8.30 with Mr Betty in tow, they needed some brawn (just made myself giggle with that comment).
The basic order of the morning is to drag everything into the main hall, empty bags, boxes etc and then arrange in some sort of orderly fashion.This sounds easier than it is.
I was on toys, Mr Betty took charge of the books. There was an unbelievable amount of stuff.

All the helpers get first dibs on the jumble and this works well for me as none of the old dears ever want things from their era, funny how things work!
The doors don't open til 1 o'clock but the queue started forming at 11.15. It is dead popular.
When the hoards of eager thrifters are welcomed in it can only be described as carnage.

Here are a few of my finds.I have to save some treasure for Thrifty Thursday but I have put together a little selection for you.



1 - 70s orange ice bucket
2 - vintage toys and a Smiths Noddy clock
3 - an Intersport racket bag
4 - Italian 50s art pottery cat
5 - loads of vintage haberdashery bits

I am saving some art and some vintage accessories to share with you on Thursday. I will be requiring some advice regarding a couple of things if that's ok?

I got the kitties a weeble. God they love it......weebles wobble but they never fall down.




Last night Mr Betty and I went out to celebrate our birthdays. I turned 39 and he has just hit 28. All comments on the age thingy welcome.
We had a fab night out shared with our best friends.We ate good food and we laughed a lot.

Today I have been ill. Yes it is alcohol induced. I didn't drink much, I never do. As I have just tweeted, me and alcohol are no longer friends. I have to accept that we just don't get along and we are going to go our separate ways. NO MORE ALCOHOL FOR ME.
That is my major decision.

Also, tomorrow, I am starting an exercise regime. Me and exercise are not great friends either but needs must. I am going to power walk, whatever that is?
What does one even wear for such an activity?
Anyhows, I will report back on this forthcoming event.

This week I will mostly be feathering my nest.





But this eve I will mostly be lying around and groaning. Xx

Bargain books and a vintage toy of joy.

Just a quickie today. 2 reasons for a quickie, lack of time and possibility of a biggie over the weekend.
I knew that the Liberty book was on offer at 'The Works' as I had been advised of this by a fellow blogger. I was surprised to see it was still available. Only £6.99. Even if you just buy it as a beautiful coffee table book it is a steal.



The other one on the pic was sooo cheap I just had to treat myself to it (as a little extra).
It is called 'Homemade Gifts Vintage Style' and is by Sarah Moore.
I may review them but I just wanted to share them with you now so you too can get a little, bargain treat.

Whilst out shopping for clothes for the Mr I spied this little gem. I thought I may have had this very same toy as a child. On arriving home my Mum has confirmed that I absolutely did.



It is a Casdon till. It has a little bag taped to the back full of the original notes and coinage.
I have deliberately pictured it with the 1/2 p popped up just to make us all feel old!
Is it just me or is this amazing?
I have added the word 'shop' using my Photogene app and it will soon be gracing the side of my blog page with a link to my folksy page. Could it be more apt.

Tomorrow is my church jumble sale. It is going to be a sleepless night tonight.
I am not anxious, oh no. I am as giddy as a kipper.....please don't disappoint me Jumble sale!
In the evening we are going out to celebrate the Mr's Birthday. I have a new dress in the style of Audrey Hepburn.
Obviously I won't actually look like Audrey as I have peroxide blonde cropped hair but from the neck down I have got it nailed!

Thrifty Thursday

I am always a bit on the excited side when it comes to Thrifty Thursday. I think I must be a bit of a show off!
I must however admit, to being slightly concerned this week. Three boys at home, lots of feeding, cleaning and entertaining required, when would I fit any thrifting in?
I am relieved to say that I needn't have worried in the least. Things have virtually found there way into my life.
Take my first find.



This little G-plan table was on Freecycle. Only had to pop round the corner to collect it. Quick layer of Farrow & Ball..... Quite fond of it already.
I actually needed a table too!

My next item of treasure was actually an EBay purchase, again, just round the corner for collection.



Don't you just love a weekend case? I love the little Airport makers badge. Now I just need a weekend away, take heed Mr Betty.

This next little gem was actually purchased from a Charity shop, I cannot lie. I nipped out for food and took a very minor detour, so minor infact, that when I got home the family were none the wiser ;)



As most of you will probably already know, I am partial to the odd typewriter in my life.
My 'Oooh Betty!' stall would be literally naked without one and as Mrs Thrifty says Here, they are fast becoming a piece of history. She very kindly chose my yellow typewriter as a 'Find of the Fair'. It sold of course, they always do.
I may find it a bit tricky when I have to part with this handsome devil. Check out his faux teak trim and Viceroy...what an important name to have.

Lastly for today, in my thrifty section at least, is an absolute MUST HAVE for a crafty ladybird book collector like moi.



Paid slightly over what I would normally spend (£3). It is in perfect condition and when would I find it again. Probably next week knowing me.
I do like the ladybird books of this ilk, ie, Things to Make and Do etc.
I also think that this sort of collection is rather good because my littlest has benefited too, maybe not the knitting one but I did get a rather good one on Insects right about the same time some stick insects arrived in our home ( twas not an infestation, they were invited in).

I would love to hear about other bloggers collections, pictures would be nice too.
I am actually considering purchasing the book called 'A Collection A Day'. Has anyone else got it or read it?
Anyhows, I will leave you with a pic of the kitties, it has been a full 3 days since I last showed them off. God I am a flipping show off!
